Mattias Ekström guest driver in the season finale of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia!

Mattias Ekström will start as guest driver in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. During the final race weekend of the season, the racing star challenges the top team of the Swedish GT championships.

Mattias Ekström will start as guest driver in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, Scandinavia’s leading racing championship, during the final weekend at Mantorp Park on 20-21 September. The guest entry takes place almost on the day 25 years after he secured his first major championship title in the STCC in 1999 in an Audi A4 at Mantorp Park. Ekström drives together with Prince Carl Philip in the Porsche Experience Racing team and starts in a guest car from Porsche Sweden with start number 992.

Mattias Ekström is one of Sweden’s most successful racing drivers of all time. For more than two decades he has collected championship titles from STCC, DTM and Pure ETCR, a World Rallycross Championship gold and no less than four victories in the international cross-disciplinary event Race of Champions. In recent years, Ekström has also been successful in electric motorsport initiatives such as FIA ETCR, Extreme E and the Dakar Rally. Many of the wins was taken together with Audi, which has made Ekström closely associated with the car manufacturer from the south of Germany.

– I’ve never competed with Porsche before, so it’s going to be really fun, but I’m also looking forward to competing at home in Sweden again, says Mattias Ekström. I know the series quite well, so I know it will be a challenge, but I might have a little help from knowing Mantorp well since the years with STCC. I always aim to win, but even if it doesn't go all the way, I hope I can challenge a bit and offer the audience some exciting fights!

– We are very pleased to welcome Mattias Ekström to the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, says Anders Boqvist, Brand Manager, Porsche Sweden. It will be exciting to see how an experienced and versatile driver like Mattias takes on a car he has never driven before, in a specialised one-type series like ours. We would like to thank our colleagues at Audi for making this possible!

For those who do not have the opportunity to attend, the popular commentator duo Robin Nilsson/Björn Wirdheim will be ready to report live from the championship, just like in previous years. All races of the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia support class are livestreamed at www.carreracup.se.
